Erica Holtz
Quality EMR Auditor
At Dialysis Care Center, some people leave a mark not only through years of service but through the impact they create. For nearly a decade, Erica Holtz has done just that. From her early days as a nurse to her current role as Quality EMR Auditor, she has shaped care by building trust, guiding staff, and creating tools that strengthen patient outcomes.
A Career Shaped by Purpose
Erica’s journey into dialysis care began with two turning points. While working in the ICU in Joliet, she met Dr. Tunji Alausa (Executive Chairman, DCC), whose dedication to patients left a lasting impression. “Dr. Alausa offered me a chance to join his company,” Erica recalls. “I trusted his dedication to patients and accepted with confidence.”
Around the same time, her grandfather started dialysis, giving her a personal connection to the field and motivating her.
She began her DCC career by training nurses in the home program, then grew into new roles: Dialysis Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Quality Clinical Audit Specialist. Each step gave her new skills, but what stayed constant was her commitment to elevating care.
Accomplishments That Elevate Care
In her current role, Erica has excelled in her responsibilities and developed new ways to improve care. One of her most impactful achievements was helping create the DCC Quality EMR audit tool, which strengthened training and education for staff and physicians alike.
“I truly enjoy educating staff through the auditing process,” she shares. “It is rewarding to support their growth and development with the goal of enhancing both patient outcomes and organizational success.”
She is proud of earning the trust of her colleagues, guiding them in areas such as charting and protocols, and encouraging them to take pride in their accomplishments while striving for more. She has built a culture of continuous learning that directly benefits patients.
Monique Barnes, Vice President of Education, Quality, and Care Delivery, highlights Erica’s impact: “Her growth has been remarkable – she has embraced new challenges, taken on more responsibilities, and consistently surpassed expectations. Erica’s development of the Quality EMR audit tool has notably improved training and education across the company.”
Looking Ahead with Compassion
Compassion is at the heart of Erica’s success. She has seen her colleagues go above and beyond for patients and has experienced the same kindness herself.
“The company has shown me great support during personal challenges,” she explains. “I am deeply grateful for that compassion.”
This culture of care drives Erica to give back the same way, leading with grace, coaching staff through challenges, and inspiring them to grow. Her advice for her colleagues reflects her philosophy: “Embrace every chance to learn. It helps you grow and improves the care we give patients.”
As she looks to the future, Erica is focused on strengthening staff education, making audits even more effective, and continuing to improve patient outcomes. “I also look forward to my own growth at DCC and am grateful to call it my professional home,” she says.
Erica’s story is one of accomplishments built on compassion and dedication. By earning trust, inspiring growth, and improving care, she has shaped her career and the success of those around her.
Thank you, Erica, for your leadership and dedication. We look forward to celebrating many more years of your impact at DCC.
