Dialysis Care Center

DCC PIC Team Helps Patients Get the Coverage They Need

Healthcare is already challenging. Navigating insurance can feel impossible. For families facing dialysis, the constant worry about coverage, deadlines, approvals, and endless paperwork often becomes just as exhausting as the treatment itself. One missed form, a single delay, or a confusing denial can disrupt care at the worst possible moment.

That’s where the Patient Insurance Coordination (PIC) team at Dialysis Care Center steps in. They take on the insurance maze for the patients – handling the paperwork, tracking deadlines, appealing denials, and coordinating with providers –  so they can spend less time fighting with insurance and more time focusing on what truly matters: their health and well-being.

The Team Behind Insurance Support

The PIC team works behind the scenes every day to handle the “hidden” side of healthcare. They act as a shield, taking on the administrative burden so that financial hurdles don’t interrupt a patient’s journey.

Together, this dedicated group ensures that nothing falls through the cracks by:

  • Assisting with complex applications: They help patients navigate Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Managing the details: The team tracks premium payments and coverage updates to prevent any sudden gaps in care.
  • Providing financial advocacy: They connect eligible patients with assistance programs like the American Kidney Fund (AKF).
  • Offering clear education: Through regular follow-ups, they help families understand how their insurance works.

By staying proactive and organized, the PIC team ensures that every DCC patient has an expert advocate in their corner.

An Advocate in Your Corner

The true value of this team is best seen through the eyes of the families they support. When a patient named Tyrese began dialysis at DCC in 2025, his family faced a common nightmare: the sudden loss of workplace insurance. In an instant, the stability of his ongoing care was at risk.

That is when Tonyael M., a Patient Insurance Specialist on the PIC team, stepped in. She didn’t just file forms; she became a partner to the family. Tonyael worked tirelessly, staying on hour-long phone calls with insurance providers to make sure Tyrese’s coverage stayed on track.

Tyrese’s wife, Margaret, later shared her gratitude in a heartfelt letter:

“Insurance is hard! Tonyael did not let me give up… she educated me and sat on multiple hour-long phone calls with me and the insurance company, and even now continues to check up on Tyrese’s coverage”.

For Tonyael, this work is about removing the stress of the “system” so patients can focus on healing. She ensures that her patients are cared for and protected. When patients know someone like Tonyael is looking out for them, the journey feels a little less overwhelming.

Thank you, PIC team, for going above and beyond to support DCC patients and their families. We appreciate you!
